Ok, I have not read the book by Amartya Sen, and probably will not. Not because I have anything against the book or author, but I have to spend my free time among various other reading pursuits.

The recent hot news is about alleged presence of animal bones in ayurvedic medicines made by Swami Ramdev’s organisation. A minister in central govt quickly confirmed within a day that it was all true. Wonder whether they will move at same speed with a verdict if a major cola was alledged to have pesticide (remember that story of not so long ago…).

The recent case of MPs taking money to ask questions in parliament has been getting much news coverage. What is interesting is that the caught MPs did not get much support from any of the political parties.

First things first, I have to lament on what has happened to the phenomenon called Steven Seagal. At one time, I would defend his movies against others who termed them as Bollywood type movies. But now it seems they are getting worse than anything Holly or Bollywood has to offer.

Ok. What do you call a guy who drives his own bullet proof luxury car to drive other people and their stuff from one place to another:

The reality of reality TV
Ok. I do not profess to be an expert on media and certainly not about TV. In fact I am developing an aversion to TV, since half the time I can not get the TV channels I like due to some cable problem or other. And the no of commercials or ‘breaks’ do the rest in putting you off.

Sensex kisses 9000! So reads the line today of a major English daily. Such is the romantic prose by which lore of stock market gets told. Of course, during bear market, the news flashes are screaming something like — ‘investor wealth eroded by xxxxx crores’!, and then some!

The results were out and JD (U) + got majority and that too a clear healthy majority. What were the Paswans of the world thinking when they did frustrate all efforts to form a govt 6 months back or so? Surely the Indian electorate can be counted upon to ‘punish’ those who think more of their own personal politics than aligning with mandate thrown up by the electorate. The second time around, the people decided enough was enough and showed only they have the right to be ‘king-makers’.

This is the very first blog entry on my personal web site, and I wanted to write here about Drupal, since that is what made me do this website. A few weeks back I had not heard of Drupal, and had vaguely heard of other CMS (Content management systems). With names like phpNuke, postNuke and what not, I thought there must be something contrarian useful (and peaceful) in these systems. Why does no one name a CMS like phpPeace or phpLove!
I went for Drupal based on the reviews by others, with a feeling that this was probably a next generation kind of system, built from grounds up with good design. Of course one cannot expect much of an out-of-the-box flashy experience from an open source project. My first installation took me several hours when I hosted my professional website on domain www.deveshwar.com with godaddy. The few hiccups apart, the idea of being able to configure menus, navigation, and post various content was too appealing to ignore further.
