Movie Review: Out for a Kill

December 9, 2005 By videv Leave a Comment

First things first, I have to lament on what has happened to the phenomenon called Steven Seagal. At one time, I would defend his movies against others who termed them as Bollywood type movies. But now it seems they are getting worse than anything Holly or Bollywood has to offer.

Watch the movies like Under siege, or his other earlier movies. There was something fresh to them, a cook who could also save the ship, and maybe the world. The melodrama was to come in later movies. And with Out for a Kill, it has broken all limits of what a reasonable human can tolerate in a movie.

Frankly, I did not watch it fully. There was no need either. It seemed that someone shot the scenes and fights and explosions, then thought of a script, and then patched everything together for a voila! Except there is not much voila! The professor of this movie is not the same ‘I also cook’ Seagal of yester movies. The plot based on revenge for his family and for his student is almost forced down audience throat. The plot/scenes of China, Bulgaria or whatever else exotic or not so exotic country seemed to be made up to give it an international feel. Did not work for me.

Next time there is his new movie, I will read others’ reviews rather than watching it for his old movies’ sake.
