Give me your money (er vote)

December 26, 2005 By videv Leave a Comment

The recent case of MPs taking money to ask questions in parliament has been getting much news coverage. What is interesting is that the caught MPs did not get much support from any of the political parties.

If the scandal was limited to any one party, surely there would have been charges of conspiracy, allegations and counter allegations. In this case, many major parties are embarrassed by the case. The said MPs however tried their best to hide behind technicalities, legalities, and to emotional tactics.

One parallel to this account was when an earlier BJP president was caught on video taking 1 lakh of payment. The party was not kind to him and understandably so. After all, seeing is believing…

In both cases, the people were caught for accepting relatively small amounts by corruption ‘standards’. It is ironical that none of the multi crore scams result in convictions, but the video sting operations seem to achieve instant justice.
